FF
Update 28 August 2006
It's a week later than
expected, but I can tell you that FF has returned
to training today in great order and is expected
to be racing again in approx 3 months. The program
will follow a familiar path, ie 4 weeks pre-training
at Quinten Scott's at Cranbourne, before going
to Moody's at Caulfield for 2 to 3 weeks of pace
work, then 2 weeks of fast work, this will likely
be followed by a jumpout and/or a trial before
we can go racing again and hopefully repeat our
debut performance.
There is unlikely to be a lot of news in the first
few weeks, but thereafter I expect to give you
regular updates before we get to the pointy end
of the campaign.

Update 8 August 2006
It has been approx 4 weeks since FF has been spelled
and after speaking to Jeff O'Connor Peter Moody's
Racing Manager today, he informed me that after
an inspection, in their opinion and in the opinion
of Lisa McMaster (Agistment Manager), FF would
be better placed by staying in the paddock for
an additional 2 weeks. FF has not put on enough
weight in the 4 weeks and the extra 2 weeks coupled
with the good weather and spring grass starting
to come through is likely to get the filly to
where Peter wants her to be. This means we are
likely to be ready to race again in late November/early
December.

Update 6 July 2006
Yesterday
I wrote that at this stage we are off to the races
in 10 to 14 days but things can change quickly,
and things have changed quickly! Peter Moody called
me this afternoon apologizing for driving me mad
about our horse and apologizing for changing tack
again, but he has decided to send FF to the paddock
for 4 weeks even though he can't pin point exactly
what may be bothering her. According to Peter,
she just doesn't quite seem herself and a short
break will do her the world of good. The upshot
of having a 4 week break is that rather than going
through the full training cycle again (i.e. pre-trainer
then Caulfield), FF will go straight to Caulfield
as she will still have some base fitness. In addition,
this short break will see FF racing right in the
middle of spring, where the fields are tougher
but the prize money is greater. FF
Update
5 July 2006
Following yesterday's email FF has pulled up 100%
this morning from yesterday's gallop. At this
stage we are heading to the races in 10 to 14
days but I am not sure where she is likely to
race at this stage. Obviously things can change
quickly, but right at this moment its full steam
ahead. More info as it comes to hand.

Update 4 July 2006
As per the below email,
Peter Moody's opinion of FF on inspection was
that there was nothing conclusive to rest the
filly on inspection alone. So Peter put FF through
another jumpout this morning. On loading the filly
into the barriers, she was very reluctant to go
in, which Peter believes may be a signal that
all is not right with her as she generally is
very easy to load. However the barrier attendant's
managed to load FF in the barrier and as we have
come to expect she ran very well finishing 2nd
in a field of six without being extended. Peter
now wants to reserve judgement on what the next
step is till he sees how the filly pulled up from
the workout tomorrow morning. If he is not 100%
happy he is likely to give FF a short 4 week break,
or if all is well we will push on to the races.

Update 27 June 2006
This morning FF took part in a 'soft' jump out
over 600m with 5 other horses at Caulfield. Although
she dwelt at the start, FF settled 3rd before
cruising up to the leaders and finishing a very
comfortable second. Jeff O'Connor the Moody stables
Racing Manager was a little concerned she have
done a bit too much for a soft jump out, but when
the jockey returned she said she didn't move a
muscle on her and she just ran too the line very
much within herself. Currently Peter Moody is
on holidays and the next steps wont be determined
until he returns on the weekend, however the four
possible scenarios are:
1) another jumpout next Tuesday
2) A trial
3) A fast gallop next Tuesday
4) Straight into a race
The 4th option is the least likely, but I wont
find out what the plan is till Monday next week.
As soon as I know something I will pass it on.

June 2006
I
had an opportunity to inspect our filly this morning
and discuss her progress with Peter Moody. Peter
explained to me that the filly has if anything
grown taller in her time in the paddock and had
therefore not filled out as he was expected. This
means she is still quite a lean filly and has
not fully matured or developed but will take more
time. Given this assessment, at this stage he
only expects to get one or two runs out of her
this campaign before she will need to be spelled
again. Now although this is slightly disappointing
in the short term, the good news is that our filly
is only going to get even better again as she
strengthens and matures which gives us a lot of
upside, assuming she continues in the same vain
as she did last campaign. The other news I can
share is that FF is doing very well in her training
and I believe strongly that Peter really likes
our filly (and he is a hard judge of horseflesh).
He commented that "he doesn't mind waiting for
the good one's". FF is expected to start fast
galloping next week before being set for a trial
in about 3 weeks.

Update 23 May 2006
Fighting
Fragrance arrived at the Caulfield stable yesterday
after completing approximately four weeks of pre-training
at Cranbourne where reports have had her come
through with out any hiccups. She looks well,
a bit woolly as to be expected but healthy none
the less. At this stage she will kick off with
some pace work towards the end of the week and
if all goes well, should be at barrier trial stage
in approximately five to six weeks time.
